Decorating for a Green Christmas

Being environmentally responsible is an important part of every person’s life. The earth is a living organism that is effected by the choices that each individual person makes. During a time of year when people celebrate love and exchange gifts, it important to give back to the world that sustains every human being.

There are many ways that a person can ensure that they have a successful green Christmas. The center piece of every Christmas is the Christmas tree. In centuries past, Christmas trees were taken from random forests without regard to the consequences. Nowadays, it is understood that these types of practices are unsustainable. When one tree is cut another must be planted to take its place, otherwise the forest would be barren after only a few decades. Some Christmas celebrators choose a fake tree so that it can last multiple years. Although this may seem like a more environmentally friendly idea, they must remember to check with the manufacturer and see if the tree is biodegradable.

One technology that has made leaps and bounds in regards to having a green Christmas is artificial lighting. Lights used for decoration used to be the same as those found throughout the house. This meant that they also used the same amount of power as all of the other lights. Not only was this a waste of electricity but it also served as a fire hazard. It is estimated that a tree can set fire within a few minutes if exposed to too much heat. Luckily, today most decorative lights are LEDs. These lights use a minimum amount of power and do not produce excessive heat. This leads to more cost effective lighting that is safer for the family and environment.

Not only should your decor for the Christmas season be green. You should make all your gifts environmentally friendly. Surprisingly, there are many options out there. Protect the environment and give an awesome gift to your loved ones at the same time. Green gifts will show that you really love the environment and your closest friends and family members!

It is important to understand all of the technology now available to make Christmas a time of celebration that does not cause undo suffering on the environment. This is a responsibility of every celebrator of this great season.
